It's the greatest secret in history mankind should not be here yet...

Over 100,000 copies sold! Join the action right here with the first in the series!

The legends of ancient cultures contain near-identical descriptions of fiery objects that arrived from the sky, of wise beings that brought them knowledge, and of a great flood that destroyed their cities long ago. Modern archaeology dismisses these legends as myths. Ethan Warner knows better.

Peru, 1914 Intrepid American explorer Hiram Bingham III discovers the lost Inca citadel of Macchu Picchu, and in doing so launches a race to discover one of the greatest secrets mankind has ever known. Discovered within the citadel are ancient, elongated humanoid skulls that belong to no known species on Earth.

Present day Former US Marine and investigative journalist Ethan Warner is living alone in the wilderness when he is tracked down by Dr Lucy Morgan, a scientist who has located the seven thousand year-old remains of an unknown species entombed deep in the deserts of Israel. She brings ominous news there are more remains being found, and there are people willing to kill to obtain them.

Ethan and Lucy are hurled into a global conspiracy that will take them from the deep waters of the East China Sea to the sweltering jungles of Cambodia, from the deserts of Egypt to the soaring heights of the Andes mountains. They must locate and excavate the remains of ancient people whose DNA carries both a message and a cure for a disease born of a species not of this Earth, and in doing so change the course of human history…

My difficulty in putting my impressions into words my be a bit off-putting to some. So, let me just say that I deeply enjoyed this story and, have already begun the next in the series.
The premise of the story has a toe, dipped in the ancient alien hypothesis. But, utilizes 'mainstream' rationales for explaining the impossible technological and cultural feats which, alas, remain attributed to the wrong civilizations. Other archaeological and anthropological controversy is glossed over and at-best, hurriedly rationalized from the perspective of the heroine, as a mainstream scientist. These aspects leave strong proponents of alt-archeology a bit disappointed in the end. So, if you are looking, as I was, for some good fiction based on alt-archeology. Just know, that this one goes pretty mainstream in the end. Any loose threads vis-a-vis the ancient origins hypothesis are left as loose threads... perhaps intentionally so.
However, the story itself is nicely arranged; The chasing of ancient clues around the globe is a time-tested and sure way to keep folks entertained while unraveling an ancient mystery. The locations mentioned, as far as I know from personal travels, are authentic. Yonaguni DOES exist and is pretty much exactly as the author described (even though the currents around the site and especially the "stage" do NOT permit even the strongest of divers to swim against it as described).
The author, perhaps in his need to get the story out, obviously rushes the plot in often head-spinning ways - perhaps trying to convey the feeling of the headlong-rush that the characters are involved in. It leaves this reader wanting more detail/buildup to the next step in the adventure. And, this is honestly, a bit of a let-down to any reader who enjoys a bit of protraction and extended sub-plot in order to play the readers emotions and, prepare them for the next wild ride.
"Wild ride"! YES! That is the best description for this story. It moves wildly from one scene to another leaving the reader still-breathless from the last encounter - and, immediately diving head-first into the next encounter. Many readers may enjoy the economy of words that allows such a story to unfold at such a hurried 'clip'. I am not one of them.
The premise that hooked me was the link to ancient cultures and, the myriad questions about; "How the heck did they accomplish 'THAT' with only copper tools and hammers?" But, again, if you are looking for fiction that explores, or even supports alt-archeology, you will be left hanging on the creed of mainstream belief. But, HEY! It's fiction after all.
All-in-all, the story is well founded and, well told - if overly hurried. This author, unlike many of the newer crop, DOES posses the rare skill of writing that provide the colorful language necessary to place a clear image in the reader's imagination. I just wish he would use it more deeply and, not hurry the story along with these rapid-fire scene changes and explanations... after an event has already passed. Let us enjoy the moment a bit more. There were several LONG plane rides in this story that provided golden opportunities to deepen and expand the story. These opportunities were repeatedly squandered with quick flash-forwards that made me wonder "What the heck did they do/talk about for twenty hours?" Don't rush. There is plenty of paper out there.
.
In toto, my frustration with this story is one of a great premise, and a talented writer, with a story in-hand... that falls short of its clear potential - for lack of a properly focused, power-mad editor. I would have PUSHED this author over the brink of editorial sanity in order to prod him to match the clear potential, the amazing historical twists, the situation and characters he has created.

The underlying premise was attention-grabbing the discoveries of ancient hybrid human-alien skeletons that could completely revise our understanding of evolution and throw religions into turmoil. The plot was complex involving archaeologist Lucy who discovered ancient remains, the wealthy Russian collector of antiquities who pursued her evidence and knowledge, the disillusioned ex-intelligence agent Ethan trying to escape life, but who is drawn into helping Lucy, and his jilted sidekick Nicola, another escapee from covert operations with a grudge to remedy. The unlikely trio embarks on a treasure-hunt to find more of these remains, following obscure clues that take them around the world, ending up in the altiplano of Peru. They are relentlessly pursued by the Russian and a secret hit squad commanded by the highest level of US intelligence. The trio manages to out-shoot and out-maneuver all their pursuers in the most unbelievable situations, finally attaining the ultimate discovery in Peru. But the resolution feels lacking, and the full potential of the premise is not realized. Fans of action-adventure will enjoy it, those seeking deeper meanings not so much.
The book started out good. It was well paced and I did enjoy learning about history pertaining to ancient cultures and their connections to "aliens" or as some call them fallen angels (or the watchers). I also (to some extent) felt like I was travelling through the various foreign countries and experiencing the same motions, emotions as the characters. In that respect, Dean Crawford's writing style definitely transported me to another world.

The only things I didn't like was how during the action sequences, the author would describe every single action, pivot, step, detail of the event to such an extent that I would lose interest and want to skim to the conclusion of each action sequence/event. And the dialogue between the charcaters sometimes felt really cliche and unrealistic and cheesy.

But those aren't the reasons why I gave the book four stars. The actual reason for the four star rating is due to the fact that I felt like there is a lot more to discover and explore to the whole hybrid human/alien dna story and I felt like the book just stopped a little too soon. When Lucy found what she was looking for - that was it. Case closed, lets go home and not talk more about it or ask any more questions.
And I snuck a peek at the next book in this series and it doesn't continue where book 1 leaves off. So, now I am on the hunt for a book that will really dive deep into this entire mystery and really try to paint a clear picture of the entire hybrid DNA/ancient sun worshipping culture phenomena.

All in all, this book did a great job of shedding a lot of light on a taboo subject and made it seem very realistic but I don't think I'll read more from this series as it's more about the interpersonal character relationships vs. going deep into the origins of mankind and how "aliens" really played a part in their evolution.
